I was so sorry to read that your grandfather passed away. I was very close to my grandfather so I know how badly it hurts. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

[Jim's Eclectic World] New comment on Sounding off: Blue Angels blast through the Tetons....

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Sounding off: Blue Angels blast through the Tetons...":

I used to have a poster of The Blue Angels in flight, hanging above my bed.

No more. No more...

And yet, I have nothing against the planes themselves. Humans will turn everything into monstrosities, won't they? I miss the relationship I had with the planes as one dimensional images on my ceiling--as benign as the pinata in my living room--stripped of their noise and fumes and diabolically manipulated purposes.

They don't belong Yellowstone, that's for damn sure, or anywhere else where they can actually do damage (which is anywhere, really).

The military causes as much disruption and destruction in times of "peace" as they do in times of war.

It's not about the illusory dichotomy of war and peace, is it? It's about an entire reframing of our relationship with the world.

And learning to hear the breath and heartbeat of the Earth rather than merely our own claustrophic mutterings...

[Jim's Eclectic World] New comment on Lake Erie, mayflies, and Jay Cooke: A Yellowstone ....

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Lake Erie, mayflies, and Jay Cooke: A Yellowstone ...":

Thoughtful. Thank you. And sad, as I watch Lake Erie be destroyed not only by large ships carrying cargo to "Junk-Mart" but also by the very people who flock in troves here each summer to fish, swim, sail, boat, and enjoy the beauty of this magnificant lake. These people have oviously forgotten (or perhaps were never aware) that all of life is connected. We are connected to the Lake, even if we don't realize it. So while the other residents of my street pay some company to dump chemicles into the lake in order to control the seaweed that "litters" up our docks, and clogs up jet ski motors and Heaven forbid touches kids toes when swimming - what they don't realize - or perhaps they don't want to acknowledge is that when you add anything that doesn't belong in the ecosystem, you may not see the negative effects immediately - but a basic biology or ecology class will demonstrate that something is happening and it can't be good. It seems like common sense to me.

Just wait 'till August when the algae blooms take over the surface waters and we can't even swim off the sailboat. Algae blooms are suspected to be caused by residential and agricultural runoff. :-(

I found your lovely blog through a simple internet search for chemicles used to control lake seaweed. I'm trying to find out what sort of trash my neighbors are putting into the lake now. "Better living through better chemistry," right?

Wrong!

Oh, btw, the weekenders burn their garbage up here too. I'm in the western basin.
